Can you open a new current account when you have so much debt?

Hi,

I've read that if you are in debt with the same bank that your wages/savings go into that it is advisable to open a new bank account with a different bank.

How easy is this to do? I'm worried that I'll try to open one and look a fool if they turn me down due to my bad credit history?

Any experiences or advice is appreciated, thank you.

You need a new BASIC bank account with a company that has no financial link to your existing creditors. These do not require a credit check, but will not include any OD facility.

Try the co-op or Nationwide, they are good for people with debts or bankruptcy. Just a basic bank account with a cash point card.

We opened basic free account in Lloyds. We went to bank and open it same day, no problem at all. They wanted to give us overdraft and credit card:eek:
