Can you open a new current account when you have so much debt?

Hi,
I've read that if you are in debt with the same bank that your wages/savings go into that it is advisable to open a new bank account with a different bank.
How easy is this to do? I'm worried that I'll try to open one and look a fool if they turn me down due to my bad credit history?
Any experiences or advice is appreciated, thank you.

You need a new BASIC bank account with a company that has no financial link to your existing creditors. These do not require a credit check, but will not include any OD facility. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
