Teachers Holidays and paid work

Are teachers allowed to do another job in their holidays? I have been made redundant and have a part time job offer from a company - not covered by the Modification Order, so no break in service needed. My employer says I cant take up employment until my contract ends - 31st August. I worked during the Easter hols part time on the census and no-one suggested I wasnt alloowed to. Perhaps that was because it was just a temporary contract? Does anyone out there know whats what. I am frightened just to go for it as redunancy money is too precious to jeopardise, but it looks like the new empoyer may not wait, the vacancy is ready to be filled now! The TP& CD doesnt help.

We have a friend who is a part-time teacher and to make up enough money, does heavy-goods driving. He's hoping to gain a full-time teaching post but until then his second job helps to pay the mortgage.

I see no reason why teacher's would not be allowed a second job, as long as it isn't getting in the way of their teaching. It is wise to avoid jobs that the PTA would frown on if they found out eg pole dancing and other risqu! jobs.
