I found boots time delay hand cream to be great. I only got it because i had one of those £5 vouchers, and it cost a fiver, a luxury item, but i thought i'd treat myself seeing as it was a freebie!
Nanna swore by covering her hands in vaseline before bedtime, then putting a pair of cotton gloves on. Wake up with baby soft hands.

    Yes!!! LOL!

LOL! ... I did warn you not to ask!!!

Better do the anatomy lesson first ;) ... a male horse keeps his dangly bit tucked up inside a protective sheath, unless he's having a wee or a bit of how's ya father!

Now, here comes the gory bit ... WARNING: don't read on if you are OF A SENSITIVE NATURE or EATING!!! ......

....... the inside of the sheath and the "bits" get gunked up with dry skin (and other excretions) and need cleaning out regularly, meaning WE have to do it for them :o

This usually means taking a handful of aqueous cream (gentle and sensitive on his bits) and literally shoving your hand inside to give it a good ole clear out, then rinsing out with a hose (or if as some horses do they have dangled their bits during the process, a jug of water will suffice!)

    ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!

If anyone tried to that to my 'orse they would've ended up in hospital!!!!!!

Then again....I never tried it....maybe he would've quite liked it....! :D
Just run, run and keep on running!

    He he he :D

I must admit that most of the horses I had to do this to were fairly accommodating as they were used to the procedure, but I can think of a few that I would never dare try it on

Best way to avoid it is to buy a mare instead ;) (my own horses were mares but the others were on a racing yard I worked at so had no choice  )

will come back to you three times as strong!

  • I suffer from eczema and dry skin and for moisturising I swear by Boots Baby petroleum jelly (vaseline) it's only about £1.40ish for a big tub (300ml), very greasy but not too "claggy"
  • Judi, I've clarried my hands in olive oil, will post 2moro and let you know how the hands are.
PS for anyone not in NI clarried means really covered, sorry but I can't help typing as I speak :D
  • I swear by Aqueous cream for shaving and moisturising. Olive oil is ok but it makes me smell like a Greek restaurant.

Recently however I was getting very red, flakey cheeks (face cheeks I mean :D ) and my face was literally drinking aqueous cream off in seconds. I was about to go to the doctor but as a last ditch tried vaseline, and it worked almost immediatly - the dryness and redness and flaking has almost completely gone.

An old guy I used to know suffered terribly cracked skin during the winter months as he worked outside in all weathers, and he used to swear by vaseline too.

I've also previously used vaseline intensive care for extra dry skin and that was good too but not as cheap as aqueous cream ;)

  • You don't need Vaseline intensive care, you can get generic petroleum jelly from chemists for dirt cheap.

If anyone can get stuff prescribed from the doctor neutrogena dermatological cream is fantastic. I got it prescribed by the dermatologist for psoriosis once but other doctors always looked puzzled when I asked for it, they usually never knew you could get it on prescription. If you use it all over your face it might be a bit too greasy but it's great on dry heals, chapped nose when you have a cold or really dry sore patches. Oh and it's obviously good for psoriosis too.
