Sainsbury's vouchers at petrol station

Hubby has a voucher incentive scheme at work that gives a percentage off various vouchers. Had a brainwave the other night about buying Sainsbury's vouchers and using them to pay for petrol. Can I do this or can I only use them in store?

think they can, might be worth asking on facebook.com/sainsburys you get a response quite quickly.
I have found online they can be spent in petrol stations, but they don't say anything about being able to buy petrol or not.0 -

Yeah, I saw that online and thought it was a bit ambiguous, so came to the next best placeSmashed through my weightloss target. Looking at 120lbs+ loss. BMI over 40 down to 20.5. Training hard to get body fat under 20%, not far to go now :j0 -
You can use Sainsbury's plastic giftcards to pay for petrol in their petrol stations. I have a reloadable one through work that gives a discount when you reload - I've never had a problem using it to pay for petrol.0

I've just tried to use my vouchers for petrol and found out the option has been withdrawn since 16th Oct (2 days ago).0

Yep...
I've just found this out, and phoned Sainsbury's. Apparently Sainsburys told their benefits partners in June 2012 of the proposed change. But my employer never told me!! The notices in the petrol stations themselves only went up with a week's notice.
Bit of a shock, especially when you've just loaded £'00s onto the card for your next month's bills.:(
Still, I suppose I had the benefit of discount for a few years.:)
My guess is that they don't mind offering a 5% discount on food/general stuff that carries a mark-up of say 50-100% (I'm guessing a little here) but I think it is true to say that the profit on fuel is very small (maybe 2-3%?), so it's possible that with my 5% discount, they have actually been losing money on every sale to me over the last couple of years.0
