Fresh Chicken Fillets Vs Frozen

Options
Hi,
I try and use a whole chicken when I can, but also use chicken fillets for a few meals too. Does anyone use the frozen fillets and what are they like? I always freeze the fresh fillet anyway so wondered if there is a difference?!

Thanks

I use the frozen ones all the time, they are so much cheaper than fresh and are really handy to have for a quick tea. I defrost in micro sometimes then chop up for a curry/stir fry. They are also nice wrapped in foil with seasoning and baked in the oven...

As a previous poster mentioned, they're from very far away places so if your concerns are at all air miles - ish then they'd be no good.
Also they certainly won't have come from happy chickens!

And finally, as with most frozen meat, they have a lot of water injected in them and when thawed I found them to be slimy. When cooked they had a texture like firm fish instead of chicken .

You may have gathered I'm not a fan but they ARE very economical on your shopping list!

I have used them in the past where I had no other option or when m mum got some and passed them over to me and I haven't had any problems with them, I do find if you cook them from frozen in the oven they shrink an awful lot!

If you were defrosting and then chopping to put in curry stirfry etc then I don't think you would encounter much difference.

I thought you were suppose to let chicken defrost naturally / slowly.

I bought frozen ones from Asda, and they are gipping, really horrible.
There's no flavour at all in them.
I dunno what I'll do with what's left of them, probably dog food :rotfl:

Well there is a lot of things we are supposed to do but we don't!;) I have been defrosting them in the micro for years and me and my family are still here to tell the tale :)
