Bargain toys/games at WHSmiths

first time I've spotted a bargain 'first' however my local Whsmiths (Newcastle) had some bargain toys/games including:

Twister - £2.49
Rumble in the Jungle - £3.49
Microscope set - reduced to £2.49 from £14.99
4 in 1 Poker/Roulette set (for those who didn't manage the Boots offer) - £4.99
Plus various jigsaws reduced to £1.74
few other bits n bobs

Nothing in the Sheffield High Street store.

I have just telephoned the Rotherham Parkgate store and they dont have anything either.

I have just telephoned the Sheffield Meadowhall store.

The lady who answered checked if there were any reductions in the store on board games. She had just been told that all sale items have been 'product recalled' - All sale items had been returned to the warehouse today.

It's probably an Audit sale like last year. I was in Smiths in Wakefield today and there were a few shelf's of random items with '36' stickers on them.

Went by WH Smith yesterday and got the last copy of Lord of the Rings board game (usually 29.99) for 3.49, it will make a nice present.

my whsmith did not have games reduced but lots of books, got one for 49p!! Also lots of stationary and pens and a few other accessories so was worth me going in!

Picked up a few board games and when I took them to the till they were showing up as 1p, however one of the assistants refused to let me have them for 1p and insisted that the cheapest they could sell them for was £1.99 as the stickers were for various prices ie. £3.99/£7.99. I tried to argue but in the end gave up - what should i have done?

Not much you could have done really, it sounds as if you gave it a good go any way! I managed to nip in today but as stated previously only stationary was reduced, most by 75%. Managed to get a few bits & bobs so thanks to the op.

It was worth a try though right! Anyway got to find space for the "bargains" that I did get - good job I didn't get the stuff for 1p as it doesn't bear thinking about how much I would have come home with.

its perfectly true i work for whs and all the penny stock is either destroyed or sold on another code unfare i know some of the staff let you have the items depends on whether its your lucky day i guess
