Glazed turnips-in oven?

I want to have glazed turnips with our dinner
Dinner is slow roast lamb, so the oven is on for 3.5 hours (at about 160)
Can I put the washed turnips in an ovenproof dish, with some stock and butter and do them in there for an hour or so, or am I better off just doing them on the hob like I always do? Its just I have space in the oven....

Thanks

I've done these in the oven before, but I parboiled them after slicing for just a few minutes first. Came out OK

Thanks, I was hoping to just shove them in without parboiling, or slicing (they are little white turnips-I usually peel but they are very small-do I have to?)

    I'd par boil them too.

If they really are small I think I'd risk putting them in whole and unboiled. Put them in early and then you can be sure they are cooked and then re-heat if they need it.

I agree if they're small then pop them in early and re-heat if need be, better than popping them in late and finding out they're not done!

    Normally I would par-boil them though :D

If you're glazing them I wouldn't put them in stock? I would just roast them like you would a potato - you don't need to parboil them but they will take quite a time to cook - 40mins or so plus depending on the size

I see time has passed anyway - what did you do in the end?

ill merge this with our[STRIKE] parsnips thread [/STRIKE]turnips thread later:D:p
