Buy from John Lewis or Amazon for their hassle-free returns policies.
Stick with LG, Panasonic, Samsung & Sony TVs. Other brands cannot match the blend of performance & reliability offered by the big 4 manufacturers.
Here's my guide to choosing a TV.
1. Decide the budget, screen size, specification & priorities, e.g. are you willing to compromise a little on picture quality to get a must-have feature like Netcast?
2. Read reviews at http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk & http://www.avforums.com/reviews/index.php & http://www.which.co.uk. . Create a shortlist of, say, 3 TVs.
3. Browse the owner threads at http://www.avforums.com/forums/tvs/ for the TVs that interest you.
4. Browse the buyer 'reviews' at http://www.amazon.co.uk/ for the TVs that interest you.
5. Beware the Panel &/or Processor 'Lottery'. For instance, the Samsung C530 has an S-PVA panel or an A-MVA panel. It has an MStar processor or a Trident processor. As a result, the TV that's delivered to your home may have a different specification to that which you admired in the showroom.
6. Go to the showroom. Check your selected TVs for build quality, aesthetics, etc. Make your final decision.
7. Go home. Decide how much you want to pay for your chosen TV. Use http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/ & http://www.pricespider.com/ & similar services to alert you when your desired price has been reached. Check http://www.hotukdeals.com/ frequently for deals.
8. When the deal comes along, don't dither... buy it.
9. When the TV arrives, check the owner threads at http://www.avforums.com/forums/tvs/ for optimum picture settings.0 -
