Morning,
I am posting on behalf of my friend who has gotten herself in a right tangle with ther finances.
Brief outline
She went BR in September 2008 ED in February 2009. She left her council flat accomm to go live with her bfriend and it didnt work out so she returned to this area after 8 weeks and went into private rented accommodation till November 2010 when she was offered a 2 bedroom flat in a new Extra Care Development run by a local council/housing association.
Cutting a long story short, she had bi polar, and managing money isnt her forte.
She is 6 weeks behind with her rent, this is paid by local council into her bank account and there DD to the Housing Assoc 4 weekly in arrears..
Also she signed up with Brighthouse:eek::eek: for fridge freezer w machine and cooker, this costs £21 per week but think she can just hand these back..
The electricity is horrendous for this flat despite it bieng a new all singing and supposedly only costing £500 per year to heat according to there welcome pack blurb her first bill for Nov Dec Jan was £200 bearing in mind the bad weather of 2010/2011, she owes BGas £200 and changedto EDF who charge her £28 per month can see another huge debt looming here...
I have helped cut her outgoings down, but her debts are around £2000 and she has no flexibility in her income to pay these, plus she has an ATOS medical tommorow(Monday) and its highly likly she will lose her Disability Premium from her Income Support so this will leave her with an income of around £70 and even juggling the pounds and pennies I cant make her budget balance.
We have had her rent money paid directly to the Housing Association from this month, but there is the outstanding amount she owes them and at 8 weeks they can go to court for reposession...and if she wants to stay here then she would have to pay this debt off, but there is no spare cash to do this.
Can she apply for a DRO, she doesnt have any excess money each week/month, her sister will just manage to pay the £90 costs is this viable option..

she needs to go see the CAB, as they can reccomend a DRO which may be more appropriateHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
Please note that any views i put forth are not those of my former employer The Insolvency Service and do not constitute professional advice, you should always seek professional advice before entering insolvency proceedings.0 -
Annie,
To answer your original question, yes, you can go bankrupt again.
The official receiver is likely to take a dimmer view of a person's circumstances, but bankruptcy is only a civil court judgment of those circumstances at a set point in time.
In that respect, it's a bit like asking if you can be divorced more than once.
Well done for helping your friend, you seem to be taking a lot of time and trouble to do a good job for her.0 -
Hi Annie, as DI says please ask your friend to contact CAB it will be face to face with someone and they will help go through her options.
Citizens Advice Bureau - Website: Citizens Advice or visit your local CAB centre (find nearest)
Best wishes

Nice to see Never also linking BR and divorce, as a process, in the same post.
I have been divorced 3 times......does that make me a failure?
Or a sucker for wedding cake?
Or...did I only get married when I needed a new toaster? [wedding prezzies, eh?}
Ist divorce done via solicitors...2nd done DIY...[no, I did not rotate 3 times announcing 'I divorce thee, I divorce thee, etc]...3rd done via legal aid, so last two done on the cheap...
sorry, thread hijack...no 'divorce' forum on MSE!
Probably too morally incorrect? No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
no it doesnt make you a failure!bsc 347:j0
