Sky - Free for 12 months?

Hi all,

Got a letter from Sky this morning (not a current customer) offering Freeview as a one-off £150 payment, but with Sky free for 12 months. There's 6 channel packs to choose from, Variety Pack, Knowledge, Kids, Music etc... You choose 2 and thats what you get for the next 12 months on top of the Freeview channels.

Anyone else seen this? Is it worth getting?

I've not heard of it, and theres nothing to suggest it on the sky website! Is it from Sky direct, or from an operator who deals on behalf of sky in your area (ie does it say 'Call John on 07...' on the back?)

I'm confused about the charge too. do you have to pay £150, and then receive 12 months free, or do you chose between £150 freeview, or free sky for a year? It seems daft sky would ever offer this without some sort of catch to tie you in to a 12 month contract after the first free year or something? Any more info you can offer from the flyer?

Sky always has offers on think the recent one was 2 of the 6 packs for 7.50, though they might be now £15 and you get all of the free channels. I think the best offer at the moment might be one of the gift packages you pay £75 and are only into a 6 months contract and not the normal 12 month one. Then from what I have read you can then get the freeview version through your normal box.

It's £15 a month normally anyway .... so you are getting 2 months free (£15 x 10 = £150)

its like the package you can purchase for xmas for people, its £75 for 6 months or £150 for 12 months for 2 of the normal packages.

I think you'll find that this is for Sky Freesat.
You pay a one off fee of £150 and Sky will install a dish and digibox for you. You will be supplied a 'Freesat' card which will allow to watch all 'Free to Air' satellite channels. This includes all the BBC, ITV & Channel 5 channels plus loads of others including lots of radio programs. Have a look at this http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk

It's more worth your while to pay normally - £15 X12 = £180
£10 back for subscribing via the website and £50 cashback from quidco
Total cost = £120 for the year then use the box for freeview at the end of the 12 months

Terrestrial freeview reception can be poor quality for some people and is not a worthwhile option for them.

Two totally different things.
With a dish you get Freesat from Sky.
Freeview you get through your aerial.
Apart from the 5 terestrial channels, Sky 1 and maybe one or two others, the rest of the programming is different.

We are looking at buying one of these boxes as we arent in a freeview area, currently we only get the four basic channels.
