First post, long story.....bear with......
Got into dificulties with my bank account - thanks to Lloyds TSB and their fines, plus consequential fines, for going overdrawn. It got to the stage where my overdraft was getting silly and I desperately needed a new washing maching and fridge. 'Have a loan' they said. We skipped though the paperwork, and they offered me much more than I needed as the 'repayments would be cheaper'. Anyway, manged to pay the instalments every month, and meanwhile changed banks (now with Nationwide, and v happy). Both banks got into a bit of a muddle stopping/starting DD's, and one payment was missed. I rang Lloyds' loan dept to let them know what the problem was, and they asked if I was finding it difficult paying that sum. I admitted it was a struggle, and they said they could help by reducing the repayments. They did not tell me that the oustanding balance each month was going to some sort of collection agency, and I would not have agreed to their offer if they had told me. This happened over a year ago, and last December, I was offered a new loan that would include clearing the debts incured, plus the repayments would be a bit cheaper. I filled the paperwork out, and my Lloyds branch faxed it off. Kept getting letters saying I had 7 days to respond, and after making numerous lengthy phonecalls, found out that Lloyds never received the fax. Another set of paperwork was sent in February, filled it in, and this time it was posted by my Lloyds branch. Still got the same letters, plus letters from the collection agency about the debts. Went to my branch mid March, and after investigation, my second lot of forms hadn't beed received. A promise of another set of forms would be posted. Still hadn't got them - only more letters re my debt!
Went to my branch Friday, really angry, and asked what was going on. Found out that the last set of forms was sent in Feb (which the branch posted), then nothing since. Told them they were completely wasting my time (5 lunch breaks wasted so far, plus numerous phone calls) etc etc. Lady I spoke to rang me later and promised the loan team would ring me at 4pm that day (nobody rang me), and that they could offer me £100 compensation for mucking me around. I refused, this is affecting credit rating etc - plus if I did accept, they might see that as end to the matter.
Today, I get a call from the collections department wanting to talk to me about my loan - not the new one, but basically, they want me to clear my debt! No wonder I get migraines!!!!
I really feel like stopping my payments until they sort themselves out, but I can imagine they'll be onto me quicker than anything.
Feel like taking this one much higher, complaint-wise. The lady in the bank is dealing with the complaints team on my behalf, but I really think it should go higher. Where should I go from here?
Sorry it's such a long one, and thanks for reading.
