Going through my cupboards I have found Brown sugar and Coconut both at least 6 months passed their BBE dates. Should I chuck and in future do more home baking or keep til I get round to doing some again?

Personally if they looked ok i would keep them for future use and reassess then. I can't see b rown sugar or coconut going out of date - how do they smell?
Do what you are comfortable with and ill merge this with food safety later
ZipA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

The sugar should be perfectly OK, IMHO! As for the coconut, there's a slim possibility it might have gone rancid due to the oil content, but as Zippychick says, give it a good sniff and if it smells ok, a quick taste will reassure you.0
