Hi,
Have you looked on Tesco ?
Don't know if this has already been posted sorry have only skimmed over all the posts. It is still a little over budget but looks lovely, and if you get a clubcard you can get points and I am sure you will get Quidco on it , (my husband got mine from a site through Quidco!)
Hope it all goes well and Good Luck

I love that page...presented as fact:
"A diamond ring is the ultimate statement of love."
There you go, OP - decision made

I can recommend the second hand jewlery shops. My engagement ring is second hand and has a saphire and two dimonds, this was a fraction of the price of the new one.
I have one very happy fiance now lol
I second this suggestion - second hand rings are much cheaper and they also have a lovely sentimental / historical feeling about them.
And they look great, depending on what era your fiancee-to-be might prefer there are some stunnig 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s rings out there with a beautiful vintage / antique look.
There are so many beautiful diamonds in the world it seems silly to pay for a brand new one when there are so many gorgeous ones wanting to be 'rehomed'!
Plus it really feels like your ring is an original not just off a highstreet shop like everyone else'sBetty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....

OK..look at it this way...if you are not entirely confident in picking the ring using a variety of other sources on your own then there is someone who can help you who will know EXACTLY whats needed....shes your girlfriend now...and hopefully soon to be fiance...
All the way through the post everyone has suggested various options/rings/places to go...but thats all they are...suggestions on how best to spend your budget...
If your girlfriend wants a surprise proposal then you will know the type of ring she wants...If you think back she will no doubt have given you a pointer as to what she wants so that hopefully when that proposal comes she will know that she has steered you to a certain type of ring....if that isnt the case and youve not spoken about marriage and rings then there are 3 outcomes...the ring of your choice which could end up being exactly what she loves and had hoped for..it could be nothing like what she hoped for but she loves it because you chose it... or it could turn into something that is not to her taste..in which case you could feel that you.ve let her down with the ring

Why not try the romantic proposal with a "token " ring...something made from tin foil..a haribo sweet...a curtain or cracker ring if you want...trust me when I say that whatever you choose in way of trinket to propose with... it will become a treasured posession!...once she has said yes then you can both enjoy searching for the ring and you can explore the antique ring / high street ring/ even ebay ...because you are searching together, and you will end up buying the ring that hopefully she wears for a lifetime....rather than you choosing a ring that you ar'nt 100% sure on at the moment...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

My fiance did something similar to this and it was very romantic, then we picked the ring together, he had already been looking and descibed the experience as a minefield to all his mates.Engaged 31/12/2010 Getting married on 22/06/2012
