I wish to remove the ruling to let layabouts get a free house for life because it is wrong.

I wish to remove the ruling to let people who live in council houses stay their for life even if they are working and are capable of saving up a deposit for a house of their own, this then frees up the house and allows a new tenant to save up a house deposit easier than if they were private renting.

You get the security you need when you buy your own home.

Have you had a chance to watch that tv program i mentioned, it will clear things up for you, it will show you that i am not a liar and you may also realise that you are a bit naive.

What about where I was born a reasonable 2-bed terrace will cost you £300k or £1100 a month to rent. Let’s take someone like my mate who has a council house and earns £15000 a year what do you suggest they do.

    Could be.

    She could have more properties.

She could be massively in debt.

Other council tenants could have more properties.

    Other council tenants may not.

Other council tenants might have millions in cash in the bank.

    Others may not.

You are completely making my point here. A point I have bought up twice. What's wrong with simple checks to make sure the person still qualifies? It's not been answered yet. All that has been said, in all but words, is once someone has a council place, they are untouchable. Any slightly difficult question that has actually been answered is answered with "but you don't know"....

Theres another thread I've noticed about the same sort of thing on the housing board. It's gone the same way. Pure ignorance of any issues, argued with "do you have proof". The whole point of people stating checks should happen is to GAIN the proof. Ignored again "but do you have proof".

Yes i know the thread you are referring to and i know why you get annoyed because i get annoyed for the same reason.

Lets talk about the parasites who get a free house for life and will never ever do a days work in their lives.......oi what about those of us who live in council houses and work hard......erm yeah what about you, we are not talking about you.............yeah well we aint all scumbags you know........... (SIGH).

Do the same as a couple of my friends are doing, save every penny they can, have 2 jobs, dedicate your whole life to getting the massive deposit required. My friends have been doing this for a few years now and are slowly but surely building a deposit.

granted houses are cheaper in my area than the example you have given and i do agree that it could take your mate years and years to get a deposit for a house with a very high price tag. I think the council should give your mate free rent for a few years so that he finds it easier to get a house deposit together, i would rather see a hard worker getting free rent ie rewarded than a scumbag layabout who has never done a days work in their lives getting free rent.

Yes so if they were not paying this £400 a month rent they could save it towards a house deposit, thats nearly 5k a year to put towards a house deposit.

Well that is the rent for a 1 bed council flat he has a 3 bed house don't know rent but would think somewhere between £500 and £600. Where do you suggest he lives while saving up.

If you read my post again you will see where i suggest he lives.

There is no point just skimming through posts and then trying to catch me out at what you see as the earliest opportunity.

I'm afraid you have no idea even if he could save the £40k deposit for house and get a 4% mortgage the repayments would be £200 a month more than he takes home. What you don't seem to realise that if you live in some parts of the country and earn a low salary you will never earn enough to buy a house. I suppose he could stop working move north and go on benefits.

Are you saying that if somebody saves up for twenty years that they cannot get a good sized deposit together and put it down on a house, or are you saying its not worth even attempting to buy a house because its so expensive and could take 20 years to get a deposit together.

If it was going to take me 20 years to get a house deposit together i wouldnt be happy about it but i would still do it as i would want a home of my own at some point in the future.

One of my friends who is saving a deposit has been saving for around 5 years i think and he has easily got another 5 years to go but he hasnt given up as he wants to get away from the area we live in.

If i was him i would move up north, i do think it is wrong that people have to leave their home towns just so they can afford a house but if thats what it takes then i would have to do it.

Sadly people are going to be spending a lot of their lives saving up to buy their own house but thats the way it is now, we are running out of council houses and the population is increasing so in the future things are going to get even worse.

I am saying that there is no way someone on say £15k could buy a house in some parts of the country take my example above even at 5x salary you could only borrow £75k so if you could find a house for £250k you would need to save £175k. Not every body can move up north and if they did would they get a job. Also you need people down south to do lower paid jobs.
