Credit card payment due date is a Bank holiday!

My Sage Visa card statement arrived with payment due date of 29th April 2011. I duly arranged for payment to be taken from my bank account 4 days prior to this date, forgetting that the 29th is a Bank holiday (not shown on most calendars). Payment was not therefore received until 3rd May and I was charged 4 days interest.
I should have been more on the ball, but just forgot about the extra, unusual Friday bank holiday.
The card company must have known this situation would occur. Very underhand!

    Underhanded? Hardly....

    Have you tried calling them?

Phone up and be nice to them!

The "should have signed a DD" squad will be along shortly... I can hear them revving their engines and donning their day-glo jackets...
  • if its your first time being late then they may be kind and refund it for you if you ask. definately not underhand though. they may know the situation would occur, however informing however many hundreds of thousands of customers they could have to take care of this fact was probably not an option.

what method payment did you use? in my eyes, payment being made electronically 4 days before the 29th should have been ample time. 3 working days clearing is usually the max
  • I am saying they must have known that this would occur and could have arranged for all statements/bills to NOT have payments due on 29th April.
I've never previously had a payment due on a bank holiday.

even paying manually you should never leave payments until the last minute, you just don't know what can go wrong. Time the payments to arrive a few days before your due date. A few days loss of 'interest free' statement is worth it for piece of mind
    It's a health benefit ...

My due date is always 21st of each month irrespective of what day it falls on. It is not too dificult to plan ahead.

The 29th of April was a public holiday, not a bank holiday (well this was my managers excuse for only paying normal time on that day) so shouldn`t have made any difference. On the other hand though, I do agree that you are cutting it a bit close with the 4 day thing and should really allow a couple more days to be on the safe side.

I agree with Aria - not a bank holiday and Sage have messed up. Demand a refund!

Then you'd also, like her manager, be wrong. ;)

The only 'public' holidays in England and Wales are Xmas day and Good Friday. Both the Royal Wedding this year and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee next year are indeed Bank Holidays.
