I thought it was when you thank the chef after you completely clean off your plate at dinner because you enjoyed it so much.

If that is not the meaning it bloody well should be.

Blaming Goldman Sachs for the financial crisis is like blaming hitler for ww2.

Really. How do you think Goldman Sachs were to blame? I thought the biggest problem was US-ians not paying back their debts. AFAIK, Goldmans neither wrote mortgages (sub-prime or otherwise) nor failed to repay any money it owed.

You sort of missed my point. I don't think any individual or group is to blame. I don't see hitler as the cause of ww2. He is a convenient fetish object for blame when he could only do what he did as a result of wider and greater forces at work.

i think the point that is being made, which i do not necessarily agree with, is that goldmans and hilter were both unintended consequences of an environment created by others.

    Bankers don't get bonuses...really?

    Try learning to read.

You posted that 'why on earth do we need to incentive them' I replied, we don't. But, obviously, the shareholders of those banks - represented by directors of the board - do.

    It's not rocket science.

Good point IMO and yes I did miss it. It's been a long week.

There's a mate of mine at UBS who has a massive bee under his bonnet about sub-prime borrowing and people not repaying their debts. If he every upsets me (unlikely as he's a very nice bloke) I'll send him a link to the Debt Free Wannabe board and watch him spontaneously combust.

I deliberately never go there. It would literally send me into paroxyms of rage.

I have a bad enough time in the pensions or employment forum.

Dfw is okay. A lot of them are trying really hard to pay off debt and cut down. It is bankrupt arms I have a problem with. I once got a virtual lynching as well as someone trolling through my past posts to do a character assassination. My crime? I mentioned that instead of feeling sorry for herself that her fancy car she hadn't actually paid for was going to be repossessed she should realise that lots of people manage with cheap secondhand cars.
