Help please

I purchased a laptop from pcworld about a month ago, although only used a few times. It cost me £899 I paid £450 cash and the rest was through hfc credit arranged by pcworld.

I am going to take the laptop back as the screen is not working.

Am I able to get a refund? i dont really want a replacement, as I feel let down by the product going wrong so soon, the same goes for repair, also it would leave me in the lurch as i need to use my laptop a lot over the next few weeks at least. I believe this falls into section 14 of the sale of goods act.

Because some of this has been paid by credit, i am confused as to what the score would be in regards to refunding.

your help will be greatly appreciated.

I had an 18 month battle with PC World that ended with me sueing them on the grounds of not fit for the purpose...and winning. It was about 7 years ago now after I bought a pc from them..in the space of 6 months I had 4 new hard drives, 2 fans, replacement ram, 3 replacement cd drives, 1 replacement floppy drive and a new monitor! When I rang up they said it was a software fault each time at first as this was a premuim number charge at £1.50 at the time.
They refused to refund me so I hope you have better luck than me.

You can involve the finance company under Consumer Credit Act 1974 section 75, as you paid more than £100 for the item,( irrespective of how much was paid by finance),they are jointly and severaly liable, you are also be covered by the Sale of Goods Act, (SoGA), and should be able to get a complete refund as you have not had the product long and it is "not fit for purpose or of merchantable quality" under SoGA.
