Problems with play.com

Hi, I think I have been the victim of a scam by a PlayTrade member on play.com

A member was selling a PS3 and as part of the description it said, please contact as wanted payment via paypal. I did this, had a confirmation email and the seller said he was posting the next day (05/05). However, have not received the item now the 12/05. Contacted the seller numerous times with no reply. Have now rang play.com and they weren't very helpful, basically saying because I hasn't placed the order through play.com. They have asked me to send the emails to customercare@play.com which I have done but I had an email back saying mail delivery failure.

Just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else and any advice anyone can give me. Very annoyed and disappointed and £120 out of pocket. :(

I don't think Play will do anything because you basically just replied to a classified ad and no transaction went through Play.

Your only chance is getting in contact with PayPal to dispute the transaction which I would do ASAP.

I know you paid through payapal, but with what type of card? I always throught credit cards gave you a bit more protection. Try contacting the card provider too and see if they have any suggestions of help.

    Good luck!

As you did not complete the transaction through play.com they have no liability.

Best course of action is to dispute the transaction in PayPal.

Contact your credit card company you purchased this through
explain that you have contacted the seller on many occassions
but they have not replied, you have not recieved the goods,
so would like to put the transaction in dispute and ask to do a charge back in regards to the transaction.

This will then likely involve signing some forms sent from your cc company along with proof (usually copys of e mail sent to the seller etc).

I have done this on a number of occasions.one of them being against PLAY themselves, charging for goods, not sent to me,or even dipatched, eventually got money back 2 months later,so im not impressed with Play,s crappy customer services either.

Good luck, and dont forget you will need to put the transaction in dipute with your credit card co as soon as possible.

If you sent the payment as a Gift through Paypal, you wont see any of your cash back.

Your best hope is that you did not send it as a Gift, but instead as goods etc. If so you can raise a dispute in Paypal for Item Not Received, they ill process the case and you will win as the seller needs to provide a tracking number.

Though, ill repeat it again. If you sent the cash as a Gift, the cash has gone...

Your credit card company wont entertain a chargeback, as they funded Paypal & paypal carried out the transaction. S75 wont come into effect here.
