Theme Ideas

Hi Everyone,

Myself and the Wife to be are tieing the knot on 31 August 2012. We're kinda stuck for theme ideas.. I know a lot of people have butterflies which is the thing what seems most popular..

My question is.. Does anyone else have any suggestions for themes that are fairly affordable? we could have had hearts but here sister has already chose that!! lol

Why dont you pick and look for something more personal rather than trying to follow a trend?

we had a disney theme for our wedding as we got engaged at disney land paris...
is there a place you visit regulary, style of music you could encorperate into the day, places you been on holidays, sports you like?

There are so many helpful people on here that have some fab ideas and ways of getting your theme in to the day in different ways if you can get the base idea there in the first place!!

I agree, a personal theme would work best.
For teachers I've seen blackboards and old school photos
One friend covered everything in sunflowers because it was part of her email address and had long been her fav flower
I've even seen people go as far as bringing in fake snow and snowmen (though that WAS on TV...)

If a theme doesn't stand out, then don't have one. Maybe just use particular colour or flower?
    Good Luck

You don't have to have a theme though, we don't.

Don't think too much about a particular theme, just choose things that you like and that mean something to you. We haven't set out to have a theme, but the things that I like are quite vintage, so that is how it's turning out! I didn't think, "right, so I'm going with vintage and and am only going to buy things that fit in with that theme".

I agree you dont need to have a theme. We havn't got one. I was all on deciding on what colours I wanted never mind a theme to go along with it. I also like vintage things but I'm having a mis match of all the things me and my partner like, it's his wedding too. The only way I decided on my colours was by buying the bridesmaid dresses. There was a discount rail in one of the bridal shops that had 2 pale green long bridesmaid dress size 10 for £30 (supposed to be £120) Just what I had wanted so I had to have them so my colour theme is green and pink as I still have two other bridesmaids to dress who aren't size 10's and I may dress in pink rather than green.

Don't stress about themes its your wedding have what you like!

We are having a candy theme!!! Maninly because my partner and I love sweets!!! Our colour theme is hot pink so it all blends very well together.....however it is not costing us too muc...we are having a candy buffet for the favours and decorating the table plan with liquorice allsorts hehe we are having the tables named after sweets. We aren't having a theme as such, but we are naming the tables after herbs and putting a pot plant of each herb on each table. To make it easier to recognise a table (I can't tell a flat parsley from a coriander!) we are using the old children's tv programme 'The Herbs' so will have Parsley the Lion, Dill the Dog, etc. This really won't cost much to do at all

Just have what you want - it's your day and whatever you want will be great!

We're not really having a theme either - just having everything in keeping with our colour, which is red, but I compltely agree with everyone who's said do what you want and make it special to you and your OH.

Debbiecatal - I do love your herb idea though - really original, it'll look lovely and brilliant value!

You could always use moss/curly parsley instead! rosemary is particularly difficult to get hold of at the momment. If you subscribe to gardener's world mag you can get a discount on potted herbs and seeds from Jekka McVicars herbs it all depends on how in to gardening you are though:rotfl:

    This is good advice....

    As is this!

Some people use their colour scheme as their theme too, or take inspiration from the venue (eg if it's a villiage hall think villiage fete etc).
