What can I use as an alternative to milk powder in a receipe

I'm having a go at making chelsea buns as I really fancy a nice treat and I've noticed it's time to start using up some of the older bits and pieces in my store cupboard with end dates fastly approaching.

The receipe is asking to use milk powder - and as it's only for 1/2tbsp I really don't want to have to go and buy some as it will get put to the back of the cupboard and go off.

What if anything could I use as an alternative?

Thanks!!

  • What other liquid is in the recipe? Could you reduce the liquids and substitute the powder with real milk?

The only liquid in the receipe is water
There is an egg, marg, and the other doughy stuff. It's a breadmaker receipe to make the dough.

I think you'll be ok to replace some of the water with milk as long as you keep the total amount of liquid the same.

I agree with heebie-jeebies, it will depend on the amount of liquid in the recipe. If I was making them, I would replace the milk powder and water with same amount of milk as water specified in the recipe.

Although not exactly the same thing, these threads have some advice that may help:

I hope they turn out well. :)
