We used to get discounts in a lot of places merely by showing ID or if we were in uniform(on the way in or out of work always with plain jacket or coat on top) its always worth asking wherever you are..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

It's not subsidised by the NHS. It's local businesses who give discounts to the NHS staff.0

Lots of companies get discounts at various places, not just the NHS. However, it's very good 'goodwill'/PR for firms to give discounts to NHS staff.
I use to get 10% off a lot of local firms (private dentist/subway/gym) using my old work ID card - and we were a private IT firm.
I do love my wife's NHS discount on Nandos. Hmmm.0 -

There are still people/companies that appreciate the job that many public service employees do and its just a way to show that their service is appreciated... its old fashioned and out dated in a lot of people eyes but there are still people who do the job out of a sense of duty , not many I grant you but they do still exist.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Yes in the olden days before retail became 24/7, it would mainly have only been these people having to work the antisocial hours. A business I know was asked if they wanted to offer a discount recently, and after careful consideration they had to turn it down because it seemed unfair to other working customers.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
