Multiple mortgage in principals

Hello

My partner and I are first time buyers and would greatly appreciate some advice regarding mortgages.

We already have an agreement in principal using a mortgage broker. We would like to shop around, possibly going direct to banks and building societies but am worried that doing this too many times may adversely affect our credit ratings and subsequently impact our chances of obtaining a mortgage when we fully apply for one.

Is this the case or are we worrying too much?

Many thanks

It depends if you get an agreement in principle for multiple lenders. If you do, then it might look dodgy on your credit file. I recently applied for a mortgage, and already had two credit searches done within a couple of weeks (one for an agreement in principle with another lender, and one for a new current account). It didn't cause any issues. If it were more than these two searches, though, I imagine it could have been a problem.
