what is wrong with where you are living .The best way to get a house is to be declared homeless.
That dosent mean you dont have a home ,it can mean your home is not suitable for your needs .

you dont get any points for saying you;'re a single mother

you wont get a council house unless there's something wrong with where you are currently living. try housing associations

Funny because in the row across from me out of 8 HE houses 4 are single mums, a family moves out single mum moves in, then comes the boyfriend to stay. Everytime like clockwork, its the way to work the system

I do know someone that had to wait 7 years to be housed by NIHE .It depends on how many points you have .

There is a number of variables.where are you willing to live,is there a high demand there,? I think as another has said single mums will get priority.I live in a private housing estate and last year housing association bought 3 homes here and 2 were allocated to single mums (and yes within a few weeks the boyfriends moved in).It pi**es me off I worked all my life to buy my home and these people get moved into the same house and pay no rent or £1200 a year rates.Do I have a problem with that?you bet your life I do.our residence association (sounds snobbish but just a name for people just like myself who work damn hard to have a nice home) have solicitors on that case now as when we all bought our homes in our contract was a stipulation we could NOT buy to let which is what the H.A has done here.
counting down the time I got left.:beer:

What is the process for getting housed by NIHE? My mum looks like she will have to sell her house soon and end up with no equity and we're not really sure what she should do then. I thought the process might be to rent privately briefly and then apply for Housing benefit to cover it? Except housing benefit doesn't seem to be enough to cover it around here. If she moved in with my family would NIHE rehome her? I don't mind her being here temporarily but I couldn't hack 7 years! :rotfl:

    Any advice gratefully received.

Ok, using the power of google I have found a thing about points and another about homelessness but anyone know how many points you require to be housed?

That varies from area to area based on demand. But I think last year in Bangor at least 130 points were required.
