6 years old debt hunting!!1

Hi all,
I will very much appreciate any reply as I am in emergency situation.
I stayed in a address 8 years ago and had bad bank record(I was very young and not that responsible).I moved away from that address to new address. All credit card debt was defaulted. Now it has been more than 6 years.I read somewhere that debt agency could not chase any default debt after 6 years from default if no recognition was made. Now my situation is I have to move back to the same address that lived 8 years back.(Now I am not naughty and responsible married man).If I move back to that address, would I have any problem from this debt agency. Please advice me

If it has gone more than 6 years and the debt collector has not obtained a CCJ, then the debt would be statute barred.

    Thank you fermi,
The debt agency kept on mailing me letters to my current address. So even if I move back to my old address(the problem one),does it mean that they can't disturb or harass me asking for the money to be paid even when the address is updated online?

    Hi Spade,

If there are no county court judgements linked to the debts and they were only listed as defaults, the defaults would have fallen off your credit file 6 years after they were applied. You should get a copy of your credit file and see if the are any ccjs listed on it. I'm no expert with ccjs, but I'd have thought if they are not on the file, then they don't exist, but fermi or someone with more knowledge than me will give you more information. Debt collectors may still send letters about debts more than 6 years old to try to get the money, but you just send the statute barred letter to them.

    Good luck

    Thank you Bottleofred,
I don't have any CCJ's and this address which was linked until last year has been taken out of my credit report.I am clear that if I am to move back to the old address I wouldn't have any problem as all my debt already more than 6 years old.I did not acknowledge any debt nor did any debtor wrote me to proof that it is my debt.Thank you for the valuable advice.

    Hi to all advisor,

I am in big shock today after I had phone conversation with my bank for account upgrade. It seem my credit file got a search with outstanding debt in its enquiry.I am very confused. All my previous debt is already more than 6 years from default. This specific mckenzie debt agency has put down on credit search as outstanding debt search but all my defaults has already been removed from my credit file. Are they now allowed to record any search as outstanding debt.Aren't they accusing me of having debt with them because after their search they did not post anything about whatever debt on the credit file in the credit section.I am confused as this is going to affect the ability of getting the house to rent. Please help me

    Hi Spade,

Some debt collectors do a search on your credit file, but it's not a full search and cannot be seen by lenders. Mckenzie hall did several searches on me and I disputed them with the credit reference agency, who then removed the searches.
