We got Bonnie from Wood Green Animal shelter but they are just near Huntingdon and in London. Our local kennel which we raise money for is just a local rehoming centre. The Dogs Trust used to be the Canine Defence League and I wouldn't have any problems with them personally. I know the RSPCA do rehoming but I don't like them as they will put down healthy animals if not rehomed within a certain time
whereas others will just keep trying, possibly moving them on to another area to try rehoming them there
Obviously, whereaver you go, what happens is that the dogs are assessed as to how they react to other dogs, cats and children and these details would normally be shown on their pens. Also, they will let you know any history they have on the dog, so you have enough info to baase your choice on. You will have to pay between £25 to £80 to 'adopt' a dog to cover their costs - don't know if you realise this?
Thank you for that. They apparently do a one to one session with you to assess which dogs they think will be suitable for you. They sound like they really care so not sure where she's getting her assumptions from.
It's £80 to adopt there, yeah we knew. We had a bit savings in the dog fund but not all of that. I can rejig funds or borrow from the car pot etc if we need to. They microchip and give injections, plus I don't mind whatever chunk of that they keep for themselves.
I now know how you almost recoiled in horror at the thought of buying a puppy when you're so obviously have a soft spot for rehoming. Really sorry for being a bit blindsighted. I've never had a charity that I feel like I would love to support but I think I may have found it now.0 -
