OMG. I rang swinton who quoted £196 then they asked if i was having structural work done. I said yes and they quoted £650! The actual building work is only going to last 1.5 weeks. Holy moly.

I said can i ring you back after the work is done and get the lower quote. He said yes. Mum says no i must get cover for the interim in case something happens.

Rather exciting. Anyone with any ideas???:eek::eek:

well £196 is better than what you had quoted!

Why don't you do what your mum suggests? Ring Swinton back say yes Structural work but only for week and half, if you can prove it, will they only charge you premiums for 2 weeks at £650 rate and then £196 after work is completed?

    assuming £650 is yearly figure?
works out to approx £13 a week so if they only charged you £26 for 2 weeks coverage?

and then back to £196 a year?

you would be covered and much better off afterwards.

if you don't ask, you don't get. Tell them this is what you would like to do, if they say no, say you have found another company that will do it - say you don't want to tell them who. You would prefer to go through them because of their reputation in the field, being the best, etc. but if they prefer you take your custom elsewhere......

Dad rang he has gone back to the old insurance company (it is in both our names as he jointly owns my house) as it was too fiddly and this was simpler to stick with the £350.

oOOOh what a palaver. I have just been stalking Porge. Poor flower. He will be so fed up with me. :o

  • what Aesop said! she's good in't she? :D

I doubt they'll quibble over a few weeks if it means losing a whole years premium and customer.

I wouldn't leave housey without any cover though sw. It might be my scardy cat nature but you've had nothing but set back after set back and I would hate for anything 'orrible to happen.

Might your dad help you out if you don't feel up to a phone call quibble?

edit to add - ooops you already did it, evening sw :D
