Requesting Information-Secured Loan

We have a secured loan taken out with Beneficial Finance a few years ago. Without going into a lot of detail, we believe information in the original application may not have been a true representation of our situation at the time.

We want to request a copy of the original loan application and approval. Is there a certain procedure that you have to follow in order to get this information ? We are not quite sure how it works with regard to the data protection act etc.

Obviously dont want the bank to fob us off so any information to point us in the right direction would be great !

Thanks in advance.

Do you not have your copies of the loan agreements etc that you can check?
Aside from that you can do a 'subject access request' under the data protection act and this will give you copies of everything they have on file. Costs £10 and they have 40 days to send you the info.

Tixy- Thanks for the reply, unfortunatly we do not have a copy of the loan agreement. Thanks for the information re subject access request, its much appriciated.

masterlumps- Obviously we did give information when applying for the loan. As stated in my OP we now believe, for reasons that Im not prepared to go into on a public forum that certain information may have been altered.

Are you going to give them the money back and ask them to cancel the whole deal, or are you trying to keep the money you borrowed and stuff 'em??

Apples2- Neither, we simply want to find out if information contained in the original application was correct.

did you sign..if you did..did you read what you were signing...if so be careful how you go about this.
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
