Tesco's Attitude

How can I email a complaint to Tesco's? I have been on their site, and can't find an email address.
On Saturday evening, me and my g/f went to the local Tesco's to get some alcohol as we were staying in and watching a dvd.
I am 23 and g/f is 19. I wasn't buying anything, just her, so she picked up what she wanted, and as we approached the check-out, the assistant gave us a stare and said "you cannot buy that unless you have some i.d."
Now, being 19, I'd possibly expect my g/f to be asked, but at 23 I am 5 years above the age limit. And I don't look young.
Anyway, she showed the assistant her driving licence, and then she looked at me. I said that I hadn't bought my wallet as I was only coming to keep her company, and that I wasn't buying anything anyway.
She said "oh well tuff" and put the bottle to one side. I asked what she meant, and she said that she wasn't going to sell anything to my g/f without my i.d. I said, well I will go then, and you can serve her! Apparently, she now couldn't buy any alcohol that night if I was there or not!!!
I enquired whether a young parent and their child would be refused, as the child didn't have i.d., and apparently she wouldn't have any problems with a 35 year old buying drink with a 15 year old in tow!
She went back in alone about 5 mins later, went to another check-out and had no problem, luckily.

Hi Xzibit
You can email Tesco at customer.service@tesco.co.uk
I think what happend on Saturday is disgusting. It sounds to me like the checkout operator was on a power trip!
Let us know how you get on.

That is a bit OTT isn't it?
I know they have to cover themselves for selling to underage but how they treated you is inacceptable.
I would write/e-mail a letter of complaint and send one to that store manager & one to tesco head office.
Seems customer service is a 'dirty' word in this country!0 -
Tesco employees do seem to have difficulty telling the age of customers but ultimately their rule is that if you are or appear to be under 18 they will not sell to you without ID. As it is an offence to sell alcohol to someone you believe is purchasing it for another who is under age, I am not surprised service was refused as you had no ID. Technically the check out girl was correct although it sounds as though her customer service skills need improving.0

i was in tesco recently with my four year old twins and hubby doing my normal weekly shop, when the man behind the till got to the wine he asked me if i had any id, i thought he was joking as im 26 and i do think my twins have aged me, i didnt have any on me as i dont drive but explained i could pay by my credit card as surely that would prove i was older than 18, he wouldnt accept that and i have to get my husband to come and pay for the shopping
hubby did have a moan at them, having the twin i must have looked like i was maybe 13/14 when i had them how stupidIf you want the rainbow you have to go through the rain.

One of my colleagues was refused in Tesco because she had no id. She's 32!!!! Why would she have any id with her??!!
Boy, am I jealous, though.0 -
I worked in a newsagents once and ID'd someone for cigarettes... she was 24! Boy was my face red!
She took it as a compliment though, thankfully!Total abstinence is so excellent a thing that it cannot be carried to too great an extent. In my passion for it I even carry it so far as to totally abstain from total abstinence itself. Oscar Wilde0 -
I actually applaud tesco for trying.Anything that tries to cut down on alcohol being sold or passed on to the underage, has got to be a good thing.Being rude is bad though, andsome staff can be so dumb.0

I've had exactly the same problem in Morrisons. Stupid policy.0

i think alot of the staff are scared witless as the penalty for selling goods to underaged people rests with the cashier personally and also the company, fines of £1000 for the cashier and or 6 months in prison. And yes the lady in the avatar is me

But the g/f had a driving licence to prove she was over 18. Why couldn't the alcohol be sold to her regardless of if the OP has ID or not? He was only with her, so why did he have to prove he was over 18 too? Here I go again on my own....0
