mortgage application issue

Options
Hi. I have recently applied online for the hsbc fee free tracker mortgage. I was then called by someone from hsbc and they said they would send out an application form and I would be required to fill this in along with id's, payslips etc... The mortgage application will just be in my name, but one thing the advisor asked was is anyone else going to live in the property with me. And I said my wife will be. Then the advisor said hsbc will also send out a form which would require signing by my wife - cant remember the reason why, something to do with her not being liable for something... However my circumstance is unusual due to the fact I married abroad recently and I am still waiting for my wife to arrive here in the uk. I did not inform the advisor of this fact as I want some time to think over of what to do. My wife wont be arriving for at least another 3 months and by then I fear the offer from hsbc may have been withdrawn and more likely the seller would have got fed up of waiting for us. Any ideas?

They need her signature. Does the country she originates from not have a postal system ?

Yes they do have a postal system. I have decided to discuss this with the bank and see what they say

Most lenders issue the consentor form to the applicant's solicitor, rather than direct to the applicant. They make it part of the solicitor's work for them to ensure it is signed.

All the form does is allows the lender to apply the terms of the mortgage against an occupant who isn't a borrower, should they have to repossess the property. They can then evict everyone without complications.

Is it likely she will arrive before completion takes place? If not, take CCL's advice and send it to her for signature and return. If she will, ask HSBC to add a condition to your mortgage offer that it be handled by the solicitor prior to completion and it should no longer be an issue for you.
