in Cutting tax
Every year the Halifax sends me a summary of what interest I earned and what tax I paid on it.
Now I have to self-assess this info would be useful from my other banks. Do they have to provide on demand or do I need to trawl through my statements? My main bank is the Nationwide.

Lots of banks are stopping sending out these tax certificates (Statement for the purposes of Section 975 of the Income Tax Act 2007)
Many banks are starting to make the certificate available via online banking.
I have just received my last paper copy (from RBS) and it includes a note that informs me in future if I need a paper copy then I would need to order one by phoning Telephone banking or going to my local branch. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I've got a Nationwide FlexAccount, and in the past I've sent them a secure message asking for the information. Last time they also mentioned that there is a form I could use but I can't remember the form name I'm afraid.0

If you make a written request for a Section 975 statement they must provide you with one free of charge (they may charge for duplicates). They cannot provide you with an electronic copy unless you agree (although you may have done so through the T&C of the account).Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place0 -
Brilliant. I had read section 975 in the online FAQ, will look at that more closely. Thanks all of you, useful stuff.0

I had the same question, and can confirm that Halifax no longer send these out automatically.
They are happy to provide the information over the phone and will post out the certificates free of charge.
They said it is because most customers do not require this information, which seems reasonable. However, I don't remember actually being informed about this change?0 -
The real pain is that companies change their procedures each year and every year as the deadline for the tax return looms there is always one who has not supplied the information, for the first time this year.
Dividends are another pain in the neck - I thought it would make life easier when I sent all dividends direct to a "bank" account.
Fortunately I set up a dedicated account, just for dividends.
Reconciling the "mysterious" entries that now appear on the statement back to the tax certificate sent out by each company (sometimes hidden in the information about the AGM) is a real pain, especially as companies in the present economy, pass dividends, pay dividends with a script issue etc. etc.0 -
For shareholdings, if you register and set up portfolios with Equiniti [Shareview] and Computershare you can view and check all dividend and tax credit details online from your portfolio page.
Unfortunately the third main registrar - Capita - has an awful system called "Share Portal" where you have to register each shareholding separately, which is a real pain. Luckily for me, they are the registrar for only a few of my shareholdings.".....where it is corrupt, purge it....."0
