Rightly, it is your choice not to pigeon hole yourself.
@gregch. you posts a problem that falls across, mortgages, savings, investments , pensions, taxation etc. There is no one answer other than to continue to research your options.
Budgeting is the key. Having liquid savings in reserve can help with poor budgeting and unexpected events. These savings are not going to make the best returns. Stress test your finances to see what you can cut back on if rates did rise.
