Need Good But Cheap Full Car Breakdown Cover!

Options
Hello Fellow Money Savers,
I was wondering if any of you have recently renewed or taken out car breakdown cover.
The AA have offered to renewal me for an amazing £220 for a years cover for two vehicles, which may i add seems a bit steep!
I am looking for full cover.
If any of you know how I can save some pennies I'd be very grateful.
Cheers,

Yes I have recently taken mine out with First Call (via moneysupermarket).

    I haven't used them so can't make a recommendation.
It covers the car (any driver).
It is platinum (roadside, recovery, at home and onward transportation) but not Europe.
    It cost £40.

If you want Europe as well then try
    https://www.quotelinedirect.co.uk
    They charge £60.
    As above but with Europe.
I have used them twice and was very satisfied so can recommend them.

I only changed as I'm not expecting to go to Europe.

    Try searching on https://www.moneysupermarket.com

I haven't tried for 2 cars, so you might even get something better than this.

AutoAid is the cheapest at £29 per car, but you have to pay up front and claim for it (there is some details about this in Martins article).

    i am in same situation....

Autoaid have a non claim service that costs £57 for 1st car then 1/2 price for 2nd car cost is for 15mths - offer via website https://www.autonational.co.uk

Although firstcall is cheaper (marginally) they seem to cover less events than autonational i.e. no cover if u run out of fuel, or vandalism to your car - correct me if am wrong.
Likely we will go ahead with the autonational non claim based cover, dont think i can be bothered with claiming, but i need to call them sometime to discuss a few scenarios with them.

Dont suppose you have a toyota? I have joined the toyota club and you get full RAC cover for £55, not sure if you have to own a toyota to do it ,might be worth checking out.

Gem charges £45 for joint cover as a special offer for new customers via Money Supermarket (with them the person is covered, not the car).  They operate a pay and reclaim service, but previous posts have shown they are very quick at refunding costs incurred.

Having just been with Gem for a year their renewal fee was too high.  Autonational cover on two cars is £85.50 for 15 months again via money supermarket.

  • If you do shop regularly at Tesco and receive Clubcard vouchers then you can have RAC roadside/recovery onward travel single membership package for £30.75 clubcard vouchers.  ;)

I agree with paul1, GEM (Guild of Experienced Motorists) are the cheapest, fortunately havent needed them yet, so cant comment on the service.

Echoing comments above, I have actually had to call GEM out probably a dozen times, and have had no problems with them at all.

Longest I've had to wait is about 45 mins, and they are extremely prompt at sending a cheque in payment for my claim form.
