French Stick, best way to Stop it going hard?

There's a reason the French buy bread everyday - it only lasts that long as they don't fill their loaves full of preservatives like British sliced loaves.
There is of course the top tip from Viz - "to stop bread drying out keep it in a bucket of water".0 -
Wrap it in cling film on day of purchase. The water cannot escape then. I do this with crusty bread rolls also.0

I pop them in a carrybag knot it. and then put it another carry bag and knot it the other side. (so restricting air to get to the baguette) and then I store it in the microwave. last for a few days
good luck0 -
but then the bread from the bakeries is pretty nice(so alot is eaten) so that may be why they go twice a day
I doubt it, the French aren't that thick. If they go out and buy a loaf of bread in the morning, then have to go out and buy another in the afternoon because the first one has been eaten, it wouldn't take them more than two or three years to figure out they need to buy two loaves in the morning.0 -
Plastic bags will make bread soft and paper bags make it crusty.0

Actually they are not thick but fussy. My friend is French and in her 50's and has lived in UK many years. When she visits her mum she is not trusted to go to the bakery and pick the right loaf as her mum is so picky about it. So I can believe they would go twice a day if necessary to make sure its as fresh as possible.0 -

I could beleive that to, except for this comment by Corona
"The French are, apparently, in the habit of buying their bread fresh every morning - or so I found when, on holiday, I tried to buy some in the local bakery in the afternoon (sold out)"0
