My daughter has a question she would like advice on if possible. Here she goes....
I dyed my hair bright red 2 or 3 months ago, it is costing me a lot of money to keep the colour up and was thinking about going back to my natural hair colour blonde. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to altenative ways to stripping my hair than buying a hair colour remover product.
Thanks in advance
Amie

To go from red to blonde you are going to need a hairdresser ... and a very good one at that!Gone ... or have I?0

Going from Red to Blonde is the hardest. You can either go to a hair dresser (A very good one at that) Or do it yourself.
My Daughter dyed her hair from highlighted blonde to brown then to red. It looked awful and she got made fun of at school, I bought color b4 from boots it's about £12 extra strength, And you put it on your hair, wrap your hair in cling film, and put a towel on top of that, leave for an hour, then rinse out well, and buff with the buff that comes within the pack, and rinse it all out very well. And dry. No quarentee this will strip all the color out, depends if you have used hair straighteners as this often melts the color molucles to your hair, making it more difficult to get rid of the color. Anyway, You hair may also go a gingery color as you have no yellow in there, If this happens, then use a very light ASH blonde wash in wash out/temporary to hide the orange/ginge tinge and put the yellow back into your hair. Then few weeks later get a cap/or some foils using BBlonde (strongest paroxide) Or go to hair dressers.. And vwalla it will be blonde again. Like my daughter's..
Hope this helps..0 -
I would second the hairdresser option: when it comes to colour, unless you have seen it done first hand many times before I serioulsy wouldn't attempt it yourself especially if your going to go lighter as its very difficult to take of colour evenly, more difficult then putting it on evenly.
If your aim is to go back to your natural colour you should only need one appointment, two if its really bright and your not prepared to have half-way-there hair. But it may not be cheap, you could see if any colleges near you need hair models or any training salons but this is only if your cash strapped. I went as a model twice to have my hair lightened and both times it took an entire day, not because the products took ages to work (although they did and had to be applied several times over) but because the student was learning and this takes time. Its fine with a hair cut or colour as a little longer then normal turns an hour long appointment into a 2-3 hour appointment but for me sitting in the same chair for 8-10 hours (yes really!) its a bit much and I wouldn't recommend it unless your really up for that sort of time. (I was bright red and going lighter red, hair is naturally blonde too.)
You can get kits called 'colour off' can try things like coconut oil as an overnight treatment to help remove colour but really unless you've just this second coloured your hair and don't like it, your wasting your money as the removal will not be even (due to certain parts of your hair taking more then others which is because some parts of your hair will be more damaged then others, eg front tends to be more damaged then the back with people who straighten their hair, outside of the hair tends to be more damaged then the roots and inside if your in the sun alot). You end up going to a hair salon anyway and have to pay out more money so pay out twice.
My sister tried to get her hair back to blonde after dying it dark mahoganny red, she ended up having to apply mending treatments like Aphogee (works but OMG does it smell bad and is fiddly!) for a few months following the colour-off and redyes to remove it all before admittng defeat and returning to the hair salon, save yourself the extra stress and extra cash.0
