FTB Mortgage Waiting game - very stressed!!

Evening,
I applied for a Halifax mortgage a week ago to be told I had a fast track mortgage and there was no need for supporting documents ( 75% ltv with shared equity scheme).
I was called later on to be told a random audit was taking place on my application. (Though i have not had this in writing - only over email!?)
I have faxed in all of my documents via branch to be told to call today as they were being looked at this morning - to be told to call back tomorrow afternoon as they are so busy.
The underwriter has replied to one email about what i need to send in but ignores emails asking for updates.
A valuation has taken place and they are happy with the value ... just waiting on confirmation they are happy with bank stats etc.
Im now starting to panic about little things... will they penalise me for paying a pension out of my wage / change my affordability because of childcare commitments??
I have an excellent credit score.
How long does this normally take and do you think these issues will affect things.
I dont think lenders realise how horrible the wait is, especially after saying they needed nothing (and i had already paid £430 for the valuation). Also should they have put the request for extra info in a letter rather than an email?
Any advice appreciated!
Many thanks

Did you declare your dependents on the application form?
If you didn't and they find evidence of children on the documentation you supply, you could be re-scored and your borrowing power reduced.
Pension contributions are not taken into account.
Email will be used to get the request for information to you as quickly as possible. It would take days to get a letter printed and posted to you.I am a mortgage broker.
