Which Camcorder to buy?

Could someone please advise as to which camcorder I would be best to buy.
It will be used for family holidays, school plays etc, also my 12 yr old likes to make little movie clips which he puts on the web ( beyond me ! ).
I have done some research but am more confused , I think it needs to have some sort of editing software with it ? I want to spend between £150-£300. Ithink the mini dvd camcorders look like the thing I want but not sure.
Thank you.

I bought a Sony DCR-DC24E for £180 from Amazon a few weeks ago. It had really good reviews on Amazon for a cheap mini DV. Im pleased with it. I havent tried to download to PC yet though. It comes with a wire to connect to PC and CD software.0

I have a mini dv camcorder which I have had for a few years. But if I was going to recommend a camcorder then I suggest you go for a dvd one, there are plenty of deals on at the momment and if you can wait till after the Crimbo period then you will have the sales. With both mini DV and DVD most come with a camera function where you can take pictures from your home made film. But (again) try to get one with a higher megapixel capability, it is useful. I could of got loads of good pictures from my home movies (no jokes please), but unfortunatly my camcorder only has .8 meg camera funtion. My last piece of advice is to by a decent make with a decent lens. Have a look on ebay as canon (ebay name is canon uk1) sell their refurbs that come a 12 months warranty.
Hope this helps good luck.0 -
