Ive just had another thought attached to this that you may need to check out...you say that you are getting quotes for 150 people but intend to possibly invite upto 200 guests...you need to make sure that the fire regulations of the venue allow this increased number of people...its sometimes accepable to under cater for guests but its not acceptable to over invite....so this must be checked and double checked as if your venue becomes too full your guests above safe fire limits WILL be turned away.

I'm ordering my food from Costco as I'm also having a buffet - rough prices below to give you a guideline...

    Sandwich platter (48 triangles) £14.99
Large wrap platter (I think this includes over 40 wraps) £14.99
    Bagel platter (36 quarters) £17.99 - I think!
    Anti-pasto platter £14.99
    Medium shrimp platter £11.99
    Dessert platter (I think over 40 pieces) £17.99 - I think!
    Vegetable platter £11.99 - I think!

In total, I've ordered food for about 60 people costing £114. This doesn't include crisps, pretzels, sausage rolls etc as I've bought these seperately.

It might be cheaper to order though Costco but unless you're already a member, you'll need to pay a membership fee of £30 and you may also be left with a dilemma (which I'm trying to deal with at the moment) of not being able to store our food at the venue and trying to arrange for someone to pick it up from our house (fridge space - potentially an issue too!), take it to the venue and set it up.

Although it's causing a bit of a headache, for me it's worth it because of the savings I'm making.

I also think £4/head is very reasonable. I'm having my evening do at a local football club and the buffet will be £6 or £6.50/head. But I have used them before and that buffet includes loads of stuff - hot wings, kebabs, ribs, drumsticks as well as the usual cold things, and dessert stuff too. And I know her volumes are HUGE - last time I had a party with 75 people, was advised to get her to cater for 40 and we still had loads left over! Our daytime venue also does buffets that don't include any more (in fact they don't include dessert) and they charge around £12/head.
You need to get a good idea of realistically how many people will actually turn up as that's a high number to be catering for and will take a lot of effort

just checking that you have thought about your venue letting you do the catering?- is it a kind of venue that allows that?

also just to be nosey- i thought the last wedding of the day is 4pm- or is that just an england thing??

Sammy - just found this - it depends on the registrar it seems as to the time
  • Annimooboo - thanks so much for the guidelines!! great to get just a rough idea. our venue does have kitchen facilities where we can store food and/or make it there if we decide to do that. i will definatley check costcos out its roughly a 45minute drive from me but because im getting married at 5pm picking this up shouldnt be a problem! i am glad to hear that someone else has thought of doing this :)

Pasturesnew - i have no problem helping to clean up, even if it is my wedding day :) someone will run around picking up the plates no bother.

LEJC - our venue does hold 200 people - this is why we have went for this venue

sorry im not sure how to quote - thanks very much for your replies!
