Earnings

How much can you earn before you have to declare it? My mother has given my husband a small weekly cleaning job and paying him £10 a week. Currently he works part-time and earns less than the income threshold and doesn't pay tax and even with this extra £10 a week he will still be under the income threshold. Does he have to declare the extra £10 to the tax man? I assume we have to add it to his income for the child/working tax as well

Everything needs to be declared to the tax man, but I would check that your husband is receiving minimum wage from your mother and not being taken advantage of.

I know this isn't the answer to your question but you might like to bear it in mind. I think you are allowed to receive a certain amount of money from your family before having to pay tax so you might want to check that out also, as it's not really a "job" job. If that makes sense. Good on her though :) nice way to help you out

NMW doesn't apply to family members working in a "family owned" business - but it's not clear whether this is or not.
