St Paul's Bay, Rhodes

Hi....we are thinking of booking our wedding for next year in Rhodes. I really like the new holiday village in Kolymbia for us to stay in but would like to actually get married at St Pauls Chapel.....am only in the early stages of pricing up but was wondering if anyone could help with a few questions I have if anyone has been before....

Is it feasible to stay in Kolymbia if we are going to get married at St Pauls Chapel, does anyone know how long it will take for us to travel there? Travel agent said that they could arrange us a minibus to take us all and bring us back, does anyone know any reputable cheap companys to use that I could book this with myself to bring the cost down? And is there somewhere at the chapel for us to get ready as don't really want to all travel on a coach in all our wedding gear before the wedding....

We are looking at having to go in October, too short notice to go in May and want to avoid school summer holidays due to price....we will probably be going the middle two weeks or the last two weeks, is the weather usually still nice?and with it been end of season will there still be plenty open?

Does anyone have any reccomendations for somewhere nice to eat after the wedding? we will most likely all be staying in the all inclusive holiday village so technically can go back there and eat for free but it wont be very private and also if its a long journey dont fancy going all that way and then straight back all for the ceremony....does anyone know how long the ceremony lasts?

Budget is £6.5k.....I hope!lol....

Sorry for all the questions but hope some of you lovely people can help!

Thanks

Noodle.:)

Ok Nykied - hand it over :D

    Hi,

I'm getting married there next September. I will try & give you some answers but i'm afraid I'm not sure where about's Kolymbia is in relation to Lindos, as only really know that area & Pefkos as we always SC there. What I do know is that there is no where at the chapel for you to get changed, the weddings there are every 45 mins starting in the afternoon I beleive. The actual ceremony lasts about 10/15mins I've been told & you get around 45 mins use of the chaple & area to take your pics, after that you have to move out. You don't actually get married in the chapel but outside it unless you are Greek Orthadox(sp?) A good tour operator or travel agent or a local wedding planner based in Rhodes would be able to give you info. Google weddings in Lindos & you will find wedding planner websites which should give you some ideas. We are using a wedding planner in Lindos who is arranging everything, not sure if they could get a mini bus cheaper than the travel agent or not.

In Lindos there are loads of lovely bars & traditional traverns where you could have a reception before heading back to your hotel, have a look on trip advisor at the restaurants, a lot of them have websites & have details about wedding receptions there.

As for the weather we always go in September, so not sure about October, I beleive it would still be quiet warm but there would be a greater chance of rain towards the end of October. Most places stay open until the end of the season as quiet a few people still go out there for the October half term so I can't see it been a problem. There is a website called Friends of Pefkos which is obviously full of People who go to Pefkos but they are very knowledgable & would be able to give you advise on the weather, as I know i've seen some of them say they are going in October:D

On a final note your budget sounds perfect:D Obviously depends on how much the holiday costs but should not be a problem at all. Mine is coming in at around 6K at the moment & i'm splashing out on things:rotfl:
Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.

    Hi noodle84 - congratulations!

Just to add my tuppence worth - there isn't anywhere to get ready at the chapel itself (there isn't anything in the grounds of the chapel at all!) and I wouldn't even use the public loos that are nearby! A beach full of people will have been using them all day - nuff said!! Ugh. Maybe it would be possible to rent a room from one of the larger places, where you and your party could get refreshed rather than ready, but I doubt it. You could try somewhere like Lindos View though.

We are getting married there in September, but are staying in Lindos itself, so I can't quite work out where Kolymbia is in relation to Lindos so don't know how long it would take to get there.

The weather in October is definitely still warm, but it gets very windy (no rooftop receptions!) and there's the risk of rain, though it does tend to be a downpour and then all dry again in no time. If you could bring your dates forward into September you'd be safer with the weather.

As for restaurants in Lindos, there are loads to choose from to suit every budget and style. You could have a barbecue on the beach or a sit-down 5 course meal! We are using a restaurant called Odyssia because it is our favourite and has a lovely courtyard with a lemon tree.

I would recommend you check out the Lindos forum on Trip Advisor too for more information. There are Lindian regulars on there who should be able to point you in the direction of a taxi firm, restaurant etc. Alternatively your hotel should be able to help.

Incidentally, there are actually 3 chapels in Lindos that you can get married at. The other 2 are St George's and St Dimitrios. Both are more suitable for small parties, but I understand the attraction of St Pauls! If you haven't been to Lindos before you should be aware that the whole place is quite hilly and the streets are paved with stones that can be slippy. The hill down to St Pauls chapel is particularly steep and there is no way to avoid - unless you take a donkey down!!!

    Hope that helps. x

Lol and sorry to let you down Nykied!!!

We're going out there on the 1st June, getting wed on the 10th.

We're staying in Kalathos, our guests that are flying out are staying fairly spread out around Lindos and Pefkos.

We are going with Thomson, all we had to do was pay for the package £255 which includes the ceremony (civil, outside the chapel) cake, flowers for myself and a button hole for the goom (which they're flexible on, i'm making my bouquet so they've agreed to put the flowers at the reception venue instead). I think it also included sparkling wine for myself and the groom too.

After that all you need to do is choose your restaurant for dinner and book any extras. Thomson have sent us a really long list of stuff, from waxing for the bride and hair and make up, through to greek dancers in the evening. We're going for the glass bottomed boat to take us and our guests from St. Paul's Bay round to the main beach in Lindos.

The only really complicated and expensive part is the paper work. If you've not been married before or changed your name by deed poll then it's relatively simple.
