play.com and NTSC

If you don't know the UK television system is called PAL. Our friends in USA use a system called NTSC. Not all TV in UK are able to display NTSC video's.

DVD sold in UK have to be PAL. If not PAL it should state so, ie say NTSC video and not PAL.

Well Play is not doing this, this time is sold as intended for uk use in as Region 2 which is Europe/UK.

Now when get the item do find out that NTSC DVD, which on my TV is only capable of doing PAL an not NTSC comes up black & white.

They will not refund until the item is received by them. They did offer to replace item with same item. Which means it would be same disk again in NTSC, but they don't have it in stock at the moment.

But I have managed to get them to pay in advance £1.40 for postage to send back to them with. But flatly refuse that they have made a mistake about it being NTSC.

All in all they might have loss a very good customer over £4, well done Play.com!

I've used play for years (if only I'd used rpoints for years!!) and have only ever had one problem with them, where I'd ordered a birthday present of some wireless headphones for my 92 year old nan so she could watch the tv without annoying the neighbours! The first set the sent me didn't work I returned them and by mistake they sent a usb gaming headset, nice but not suitable for my nan! I returned those and called them to say forget it and went and got some from curry's but only due to the timescale of getting them. They refunded me as soon as they received the items back and anlso my postage costs. They were really friendly and helpful and apologised every 5 minutes!

So I know they're really helpful when there's mistakes made, does the packaging say it's NTSC if so point it out to them. It could be a mistake by the manufacturer as American films don't have certificates on them so maybe they've just put the wrong disk or format into the wrong box. I think it's extremem to stop shopping with them like you say over £4 but if you point out to them where on the packaging it says NTSC then I'm sure they'll apologise. And not refunding until they get the item is normal. but they will refind pretty instantly when they get it, along with your postage costs.
    Hell yeah!!
  • Rating is U with the BBFC certificate.
The packing on the back states NTSC endcoded in large print.

To be 100% honest I'm not sure what your actual problem is with Play they sold a film that is meant for use in region 2 machines so playable in the UK, they've offered a refund and you've got them to pay the postage upfront, the only thing they seem to be doing is denying the film is NTSC so just call them up and tell them where on the box it says it and let them apologise.

On here it says it's PAL http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aladdin-Nicky-Stoter/dp/B00008T523 so it might be the filmmakers fault.

About 80% of my dvd collection is US dvds and I've never had a problem with any of them playing on any TV.
    Hell yeah!!
