Sick pay !

Hi there my partner had a bad accident about 3 weeks ago now his hands have been basicly sliced up, all in all he will be off work for a long time.
his boss had agreed to pay him full pay for all the time he is off, he has now told us his insurance company have told him not to do that and only pay him sick pay ! ( due to him putting in a claim) we have a 1 yr old daughter so i have informed tax credits of reduced earnings so we can get more money from them and have sent a form off for the industrial injurys benifit.
Was just wondering if there is anything else we are entitled to ? every penny helps as i only work part time and half the tax credit go to the childminder !
any advice much appreciated cheers

I don't know if you'd be entitled to anything else - the entitled to site might help.
But if this is going to last for some time, and your husband isn't completely incapacitated by the accident (which I am trying hard not to think about!), is it worth seeing if you can increase your hours and / or use the childminder less?
It may also be worth contacting ACAS. If his contract says that full pay will be paid while he's off sick, then that's what should happen, regardless of the insurance claim. If his contract says SSP only, then the offer of full pay was a gesture of good will, which seems to indicate that the employer is accepting some liability. In that case I don't see why paying full pay can't be done: once the claim is settled then the settlement could be reduced to reflect the fact that the employer's been more generous than he had to be, IYSWIM.
There may be a good reason for the employer to follow the insurance company's instructions, but I don't know if the employer HAS to do so, and ACAS would probably know what's 'normal'.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I'm suspicious of the employers insurance tale,if it looks like a rat, smells like at rat......
In the meantime submit a claim for industrial injuries benefit, it's administered through jobcentre plus. There is a qualifying period before he may be entitled to it however i'd get the paperwork completed.I don't know the line of work your partner is in however it's almost certain that this incident is RIDDOR reportable...i'd be inclined to ask the employer if they have complied and to supply the RIDDOR report reference number. If not he can report it himself...http://rweb1.nbapp.com/hse/riddor.nsf/F2508?OpenFrameSetDon’t be a can’t, be a can.0
