First Morrisons said it would be reducing petrol by 1p a litre and diesel by up to 3p a litre from Tuesday.

Then Asda announced it was knocking 1p a litre off petrol and 4p off diesel - also from Tuesday.

Finally, Tesco said it would cut petrol by 1p and diesel by 3p.

Thanks for posting such good news!! It's about time the prices came down, I fill up every 8 working days and it seems that each time the price has increased.

Very welcome news indeed! Thanks again.

Where I live we have one real petrol station in a 5 mile radius. It has always been expensive -top end of mainstream - as a Total Garage. It got taken over by COOP and is just as bad. It does discount against it's shop but ours is midi supermarket and damn expensive.

Have always had to travel to get cheaper fuel.

In the next proper sized town (where/we work) the Tesco and Morrisons always used to be 3/4l cheaper. If I went 15 miles to the closest large town a range of stations would be 5/6pl cheaper than the local.

Last summer the Tesco and Morrisons drifted up to the local price.

The same for the large town although you can usually find a discounter. Obviously it doesn't make sense to go to 15 miles unless there is another reason.

I just find it odd how the supermarkets don't seem to compete any more. If they all offer discount for/or against shopping then there is no incentive to choose one over the other except for personal preference.

By the way our main local supermarket isn't one of the big 5 and I guess we save more than any fuel discount by shopping there.

Got diesel in Tesco last night and they'd already put the price down. Paid 138.9 a litre for it (about 5p cheaper than our local garage).
    If I had known then what I know now . . .
