I am so dissapointed as if argos wont change them i now have a £20 pair of broken earrings does anybody know what i should do now.

The 16-day money back guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights - it allows you to take things back simply because you don't like them. Earrings will be exempt from that for hygiene reasons.
That doesn't affect any other guarantee the earrings will have against being faulty, nor does it affect your rights under the Sale of Goods Act and all the rest.
If they're faulty, Argos should happily replace them without any quibble, especially as you have the receipt.0 -
hi you will be able to return them as being faulty as i returned a tongue bar as the top of it fell off and i got a replacement.0

Most definately. If faulty they just like anyother item you would buy. Take them back and either get a replacement or refund.0
