Debt Collectors discount

Not sure if this is the right place to stick this thread but here goes....

I was sorting through loads of paperwork, old and new, and came across loads of old debt collectors letters (westcotes). This reminded me of a certain 600pound mobile phone bill that i somehow avoided for 1 year. but sure as hell they caught up with me...

..but the point is, i negotiated a settlement of 3 installments over 2 months and they gave me a 25 % discount for this prompt payment.

Having worked in a smiliar field, i know that companies (mainly larger ones) will accept propmt payment discounts to recoup most of the money quickly so i just wondered if anyone had any really good discounts off debts??

Through work i have negotiated discounts of 40% off accounts worth millions (no kiddin).... but even so, im in debt myself...( i still dont know how it happened....)

I know this isn't a way out of debt and shouldn't be an excuse to get into debt.... but i just wondered.... has anyone else encountered discount agreements for paying back debt collectors quickly?

  • ONe DCA I spoke to recently offered me 40% off the debt if I paid it off by the end of the month. I told them I couldn't even afford the installment they were also offering!

DCAs buy the debts from the creditor at quite a low rate so you could negotiate with them and see what happens.
