Could anyone recommend a good site for buying hewlett packard printer cartridges at economy prices. I have a HP deskjet 640c for which I need cartridges. I would prefer to stick with hp cartridges but reliable suggestions for any alternative would be appreciated. Thanks.

You should find someone selling them on ebay rather cheaply. Even the compatible cartridges are HP, they have just been refilled.0 -
Try http://www.cartridgeworld.co.uk/.
I haven't bought carts on-line, as we have a real shop in Bracknell.
From memory, an HP #78 colour cart (refill) was just under £20, which is about half the price of a new one. Quality is quite good enough for the general purpose printing we do. Haven't tried it for photos though.
Have always had good service there, and through repeat business you can save 'stamps' which can be exchanged for them planting a tree on your behalf!0 -
I think you should be able to beat CartridgeWorld prices. StinkyInk and InkCycle are two good options. They offer free delivery and sell both original and compatible cartridges. For your printer:

As arrowsmith says, ebay is usually cheaper. However, if you use ebay you have to remember to add postage to the cost. I tend to use online shops because I find them to be less hassle.0 -

I get mine from https://www.eco-office-supplies.co.uk I do alot of business and photography printing - so use way too much ink! They are really helpful, relatively cheap and the things always arrive quickly - even with the longer postage.0

I always use ebay for my printer cartridges. They are great and I just narrow the search down until it only displays the branded ones for my printer and then go from there - normally on buy it now unless there is some in an auction that arent going for silly prices!Weight Loss - 102lb0

I personally don't trust buying from ebay.0
