Mystery shopping, now there's a thought.

Maybe someone (not a broker) could try that - get some advice here from the in-house contributors, and then call up and get the free check from L&C.

    Then report the results :)

On the other thread started by carlac, the poster effectively got the same advice here as he received at L&C.

Would the deal have been any cheaper via L&C than through one of the brokers on here?
I could do that ,give me the job.:j

I do it regularly, and not just with L&C, with lots of companies. I actually get paid for it.

Fees free brokers almost always rely heavily on the income from insurance sales.

I dont sell insurance anymore as the time required to fully research specific cases, regularly update generic knowledge, administer and sign - up clients was too onerous, given the fact that people approach me for mortgage not insurance adivce, so I feel it encumbent on me to step up to the plate and ensure my mortgage expertise is as good as can be, and not diluted by other considerations.

That isnt to say I dont recommend they speak to a suitably qualified insurance specialist about the matter, although many people are quite capable of arranging such matters themsleves with the likes of Direct Line.

Like herbiesp, I deal mainly with existing clients and referals, but I still dont have time to dillute my day with insurance work.
Most clients dont question my fees, so I guess they must be fairly content with the service.

Time and time again they tell me they were tunrned down after having wasted weeks with other brokers AND THAT HAD THE BROKER NOT SPECT SO MUCH TIME ON INSURANCE (AT POINT OF SALE AND AFTER) HE MIGHT HAVE STOOD A BETTER CHANCE OF GETTING A MORTGAGE OFFERED!!
