Cost of living increase on pay

I've just noticed that I haven't received a cost of living increase this year. This is the first time in 16 years that this has happened. I usually get this in October, back dated to August. Have I just been lucky and it's run out, or should I get it this year?

Thank you. Don't they have an obligation to give you a cost of living increase though?DMP mutual support number 174Total debt now (April 10) £0! - total paid off £30,221 or 100%I'm now debt free after 6 years!!:jNon smoker since June 2006 :j0

Theres no obligation to give a cost of living rise - it may be a contractual right, though, depending on your contract.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

Never heard of any contract that gives you an automatic payrise but certainly wouldnt be illegal for them to exist.
There is no automatic right to a pay rise be it at or above the level of inflation - have certainly worked for a fair number of companies that for the majority of employees they didnt receive a payrise above inflation.
As others have said, read your contract and speak to your line manager/ HR department. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Thanks everyone. I think I'm in the same position this year as Al Mac. Every year there's lots of talk with the unions about the cost of living increase but nothing this year. So this must mean that I actually earn less this year than last, and definately less next year!
