Tax Return Query

in Cutting tax
Hi All
My friend registered as self-employed in July last year and spent a few months doing some work, (self employed) alongside his job. He has been sent a tax return form to fill in and return, and has been sent the larger document to fill in. However, I have seen that there is a shorter form that you fill in if your turnover was 70,000 or less. Can he fill this one in instead, or does he have to fill in the larger document that has been sent? This is the first time he has filled in a tax return as this was his first period of self employment.
Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The best option is to complete the tax return online. The long form is for first timers, so that they can get a picture of someone's income from all possible sources.
If you register for the online tax returns, they just ask you Yes/No questions and there will be just three totals fields to complete for people with income below the limit for itemised income/expenses.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?
