May Honeymoon Ideas?

I'm getting married in early May next year and looking for somewhere to go on honeymoon. I'm thinking of somewhere relatively cheap.ie Western Europe but then it got me thinking about a few longer haul trips such as Thailand where the flights might be a bit more pricey but once you get there it's cheap.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Thanks! :-)

Why dont you consider Cape Verde (before it becomes more of a tourist destination and it goes down hill - Thats what we was told) its where we are going in August for ours. We managed to get a 5* All Inclusive Riu hotel right on the beach for 2 weeks in August (baring in mind its school hols) for £1990 for 2 adults. Worth a shot at trying????

    Hi

Thailand is great, we spent 5 weeks there back in 2009 and can't recommend it highly enough.
What you want to do, thevstandard of accommodation and your budget will determine whether this is a viable option for you.

Firstly, May shouldn't be a problem weather wise, the temp averages around 30C all year round. Rainy season is the only thing, but to be honest, downpours are generally short and sharp and then the sun is back.

Budget wise, you'll get luxury for less than you would in Europe, but it isn't "cheap". Thailand is famous for for it's backpacking scene and as such you'll find alot of accommodation of this type.

We did "mid-range" accommodation with AC in most cases and averaged around £30/night and didn't feel like we were slumming it at all. We booked our first 4 nights in Bangkok before leaving the Uk and then booked the rest as we went. There's no problem doing this and we were never left feeling like we might end up homeless.

You can book some package holidays to Thailand now, although we found thar a premium of around 20-25% was being charged for this, which would have left us with very limited spends out there. Beer is cheap as is local street food, but western food, wine & cocktails are quite a bit more expensive. Comparable to UK prices.

If you are looking for an adventure honeymoon then I would recommend Thailand, but I would also recommend you look at flights into Singapore and then take some low cost airlines to visit some other areas around there which are, in my opinion more spectacular, such as Malaysia and Borneo.

PS. If you choose this option remember to take out independent traveller / backpacking insurance as normal run of the mill travel insurance doesn't usually provide enough cover when holidays are booked outside of a package deal.

I am looking at this hotel for a 7 night break in February to celebrate my silver wedding anniversary (25 years), can you let me know what you thought? Thanks and congratulations on your marriage.
