Radio Times - 8 issues for £1 - again June 2011

  • I find it hard to approve of repeatedly using the "X issues for £1" offers, and then cancelling after X issues without ever paying anything realistic to the cost of the magazine - if everyone did this, the magazine would go bust in no time!
However, I deplore the business model employed for RT subscriptions of getting 'punters' in with a good DDebit deal and then putting the price up massively almost while you're not looking. Like others on this forum, I've just had notification that my 6-month subscription DD is about to be increased from £19.99 to £29.99. Now I realize £19.99 was a good deal, but the new rate is essentially the shop price (52 x £1.20 /2 = £31.20). I've been subscribing since 2003, and I expect to be made an offer, on renewal, at least as good as offers that are available to new subscribers. All I'm looking for is a delivered price say about 10% less than the shop price (to compensate for the fact that there are about 4 or 5 issues a year, when we're away, that are of little value to us, and which we would not buy).
So with all that in mind, here is a slightly different offer to that identified by this thread. It has only 6 issues for £1 (rather than 8) but the 6-month continuation price is then only £28.60 (instead of £31.20). I've just cancelled my previous sub, and ordered this, and so far everything seems to be going ahead as described (I've had the initial confirmation email). If all remains well, I will continue my subscription for 6 months and then, if they don't hike up the DD, for a further 6 months. Since that will give me a year's sub at (£57.20/58 = ) just under 99p/issue (rather than £1.20), I'm happy.

(note the promotion code, built into the URL, is RTGOZ10B).

Incidentally, this promotion came from an official BBC.subscriptions Google advert, presented in response to a google search for " Radio Times subscription offers ".

    :( It's expired again - June 2011 :(:(
If you know of a new one please let us all know

I've just checked the link in my post above (#22) and, as of 16:45 2 July 2011, it's still active and allows you to add the offer to your basket and proceed to the check-out (I didn't follow it any further of course). My order has gone through exactly as described - the offer is for 6 issues at £1 + £28.60 for the next 26 issues - and I've had the 2nd confirmation email repeating these terms and accepting the order. The link is repeated here for convenience.

Actually, the 8 for £1 offer still appears to be active for me!! Just follow your instructions in post #10 - everything still works. Note the promotional code is RTMIC11 (check cap I, cap C, one, one). I think there might have been an error in the original link when the promotional code was incorporated.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know.

Here's the link with the correct code incorporated:
